What You Need To Know About DACA's Termination and How To Take Action (Hint: Call Your Reps)

Creating Espacios is all about what the title suggests — it’s a living, breathing reminder that Latinxs are out here creating spaces for themselves in places where they hadn’t ever before.

There’s no bigger example of this than the more than 800,000 DACA recipients (or Dreamers) whose livelihoods are currently being jeopardized by some politicized af decision making courtesy of the Trump administration.

It’s senseless. It lacks empathy and any regard for the humanity behind the DACA applicants.

It’s 800,000 individuals who have pledged allegiance to the flag more days than they have ever spent in the country this administration wants to deport them to.

They are, on average, twenty-something year old millennials that big brands try to turn into loyal customers. By the time they started kindergarten in the 90s, they had watched the same Sesame Street episodes that their classmates had. And they knew an additional language on top of it all.

They are Americans in all the ways we pride ourselves on being American. They just don’t have a pathway to citizenship that deems them American *enough* in the White House’s eyes. Personally, my recommendation is that all those whose salary is being paid by all of our taxes — and who unabashedly defend DACA’s termination from podiums with the American emblem on them — should do well in remembering those who made their employment their possible.

It’s hard/borderline impossible to be an expert on all of the topics that the Trump administration consistently make us all have to defend, so instead I turn to experts, podcasters and writers whose beats are politics. Below are a list of ways to get up to date on what DACA is and how this move will directly impact the lives of Dreamers.

Before I list that out though — here are clear actionable ways you can make an impact right now.
